ACSR is a bare stranded overhead conductor built from 1350 aluminum alloy wires concentric-lay-stranded around a central steel core, coated for corrosion resistance. The steel core carries the mechanical load and tensile strength, while the aluminum strands carry the current, giving the conductor high strength-to-weight performance for long spans. Constructions in this lineup meet ASTM B232 specifications and are identified by standard conductor codes (e.g., Drake, Merlin, Waxwing) tied to specific strand count and size.
Used for overhead power distribution and transmission lines where span length, sag control, and mechanical strength under wind and ice loading are design factors.
