The most common overhead power line conductor in use today, Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) is made from high purity aluminum strands of 1350-H19 alloy, wrapped around one or more galvanized steel strands. ACSR wire provides a combination of high electrical conductivity with fairly light weight and strength, typically at a very economical price point.
Because ACSR wire has a steel core, it offers higher tensile strength and lower thermal expansion compared to other conductors like AAC, meaning it is suitable for longer spans and higher tension, able to resist mechanical loading from wind and ice.
