Description
DRAKE is one of a large range of aluminum conductor steel reinforced (ACSR) wires, used primarily for overhead power transmission and distribution. Its steel core, wrapped in nearly pure round stranded aluminum, makes it stronger and able to cover longer spans under higher tension compared to AAC or AAAC alternatives.
Features:
- Single stranded conductor
- Aluminum + steel construction is relatively lightweight and cost-effective
- Greater mechanical strength for higher tension, resistance to wind and ice
- Lower thermal expansion than all aluminum AAC or AAAC
- No insulation or jacket
Applications:
- Overhead power transmission
- Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines
- Primary and secondary distribution
- Sub-service spans down to private premises
- Maintains high ampacity
- Suitable for longer spans and resisting loads from wind and ice
Construction:
- Minimum 99.5% pure aluminum alloy 1350-H19
- 795 kcmil (MCM) conductor
- 26 round aluminum strands, concentric-laid in layers
- 7 round coated steel strands
Standards:
- ASTM-B230 for aluminum 1350-H19 wire for electrical purposes
- ASTM-B231 for concentric-lay-stranded AL 1350 conductors
- ASTM-B232 for concentric-lay-stranded AL conductors, coated-steel reinforced (ACSR)
- ASTM-B498 for zinc coated (galvanized) steel core wire for use in overhead power lines
- ASTM-B500 for metallic coated or AL-clad stranded steel core for use in overhead power lines
- ASTM-B606 for high-strength zinc-coated (galvanized) steel core wire for AL and AL-alloy conductors, steel reinforced
- ASTM-B802 for zinc–5 % AL-mischmetal alloy-coated steel core wire for AL conductors, steel reinforced (ACSR)
- ASTM-B803 for high-strength zinc–5 % AL-mischmetal alloy-coated steel core wire for use in overhead power lines
- ASTM-B957 for extra- and ultra-high-strength zinc-coated (galvanized) steel core wire for overhead power lines
- ASTM-B958 for extra- and ultra-high-strength class A zinc–5% AL-mischmetal alloy-coated steel core wire for use in overhead power lines
